In Remembrance of
Ronald Dick Huijzen
5 July 1947 – 19 December 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald Dick Huijzen, founder, inspirator, co-owner, and former managing director of TSS International BV, on 19 December 2025.
Ronald began his entrepreneurial career with a car rental company in Menorca. After the death of General Franco, he and his then-fiancée Rosemary were among the many expatriates who were urged to leave the country.
After their marriage, Ronald sought ways to continue his entrepreneurial path, as working for someone else was never his preference. He sold an innovative car wax called Diamond Glaze, partnered with the founder of OKO Tyre Sealants, and later became a trader in aircraft spare parts. The business, then called CR Aviation Support, operated from the attic of his home, where the rattling telex machine marked the start of urgent searches for spare parts for aircraft grounded anywhere in the world. This work took Ronald and his family across the globe, attending trade shows and forming enduring business relationships and friendships.
When the Gulf War began, the aircraft spare parts business collapsed due to the proliferation of counterfeit parts and stricter regulations that made independent trading unsustainable. Fortunately, Ronald was already involved in automotive security products, which allowed him to transition from air to land quickly. Demonstrations for the German police were organised, and a partnership with Mercedes-Benz was established, leading to decades of deliveries of runflat inserts for the G-Guard. At that time, runflat inserts and civilian armoured vehicles were largely unknown.
In 1999, Ronald formalised the business as Transport Security Systems International (TSS) B.V., with his wife Rosemary officially becoming co-owner and financial director. He pioneered vehicle mobility solutions by introducing Rodgard runflat inserts, which became the industry standard. In the early days, he often installed the inserts himself, as there was no dedicated staff.
Ronald also developed self-sealing and flame-retardant fuel tank coatings and expanded TSS with complementary products, including heavy-duty alloy rims, brake upgrades, vehicle intercoms, and blast mitigation mats. His hands-on experience led him to design tools to make installations easier and more effective.
In 2010, his son Louis joined the company, becoming a team of three Huijzens at TSS. Ronald and Louis travelled extensively to meet key customers and suppliers, continuing to build the company while sharing knowledge and letting Louis develop his own approach. Ronald often joked that he had retired after his 67th birthday, but he remained involved, checking in at the workshop whenever he visited.
Ronald was respected and liked by customers, suppliers, and employees for his technical knowledge, no-nonsense approach, and commitment to both his company and the relationships he built. He will be remembered as a mentor, a pioneer, and a person who treated colleagues and clients not just as business contacts, but as friends.
The team at TSS International, and especially Rosemary and Louis, are grateful for the many messages and memories shared following his passing. They have brought comfort during this time of loss.
